“Colored Minister Dies of Injuries
Rev. Weldon Brown, New Windsor,
Was Struck by Auto on October 14
As the result of injuries sustained October 14 when he was struck by an automobile while walking alongside of the road near New Windsor, Rev Weldon Brown, colored minister, died Thursday afternoon [1/20/1938] at 3:15 at the University Hospital in Baltimore. He had been a patient at the hospital from time to time since the accident.
He was the son of the late Jerry and Portia Brown. The following children survive: Gertrude Duppins, Pittsburgh; Nettie Watt, Waynesboro; Jessie Brown, New Windsor; Cora Porter, Waynesboro; Dewey Brown, Hagerstown. Eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.
Formerly the pastor of Mount Olive and Mount Joy A.M.E. churches, Rev. Brown had been retired for some years and had lived in the New Windsor vicinity. Members of the colored Masonic lodge will serve as pallbearers at the funeral on Sunday morning, meeting at the funeral home at ten o’clock. Further services will be held from Mt. Olivet M.E. church at 10:20 o’clock. Rev. C.G. Coleman will officiate, assisted by Rev. Dr. Edward Bixler, pastor of the Church of the Bretheren, Sam’s Creek. Friends may call at the funeral home until time of the funeral. Interment in cemetery adjoining church. D.D. Hartzler and Son, funeral directors.”
